It’s spring and our Himalayan balsam bank is empty! Help us fill it up this year by removing this invasive, non-native plant from our riverbanks, paths and fields. By autumn, we hope to deposit 500,000 plants into our ‘balsam bank’, giving much needed space to native plants so they can survive and thrive.
Join us on the first of our ‘Bank the Balsam’ afternoons, the first of three falling on the Bank Holiday weekends this summer at Dalston (4th May) Branthwaite (23rd May) and Appleby (31st August). And look out for more mid-week pulling opportunities as part of our regular volunteering programme running across the Eden river catchment.
All the family can take part and help us to remove Himalayan Balsam from Dalston’s riverbanks. It’s super easy to pull and we need to do it before the plants gets too big. It can grow to over 2m tall! Tea and cake on tap to keep up the energy levels!
All are welcome, no experience necessary and no equipment needed. Join us for a rewarding, fun and invigorating way to spend your day! And by pulling out invasive, non-native Himalayan balsam, you’ll be helping to protect our rivers and native wild plants. It’s easy, fun and a good workout!
All ages – under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
