The Ladies Walk is a historic footpath that follows the banks of the River Eden, just south of Edenhall village. Named for the Victorian-era ladies of Eden Hall who used it for gentle afternoon strolls, this route remains a local treasure—peaceful, picturesque, and full of period charm.

Accessibility

Please be aware of livestock whilst walking in the countryside, most cows and sheep on public right of ways are safe but stay alert to the potential risk to you and your walking party, especially with cows and calves (see the link for more info. to stay safe).

Keep your dog on a lead around all livestock, even if your dog is especially well-behaved, the poor sheep don’t know this! Especially in lambing time, try to leave the field as calm as you found it.

Start at the church information board. With the board behind you, walk along the road towards the village to tall stone cross.

Turn right through the gate and down the Public Footpath sign posted towards Langwathby.

Once you reach the riverbank path, turn left through the gate, and follow the path with the river on your right and the wall on your left. Walk up the Victorian stone steps and past the "South Rising" sandstone sculpture.

Go through the gate, out of the woodland follow the footpath along the rivers edge.

At the public footpath marker, turn left away from the riverbank. The path heads gently uphill along the edge of a field and past estate sandstone walls, keep the open fields on your right and continue through two gates until you reach the tarmac road.

At the road turn left, past the children’s playground into Edenhall. Pass the War Memorial, then immediately turn left in front of the telephone booth and follow the road back to the car park at St Cuthberts Church.
