UK Compost Week - It’s a rotten job but we love it!

Have you always been curious about making your own compost but aren’t sure where to start? March 10th-16th is officially UK Compost Week, so what better time to begin your composting journey!

Packed with rich nutrients, homemade compost will improve your soil and help to conserve moisture, giving your plants the boost they need to thrive. Plus, it’s a great way to recycle and cut down on the cost of buying compost from the garden centre.

At the Eden Community Tree Nursery in Penrith, we know through experience that composting is the key to giving our saplings the very best start to ensure that they thrive when they’re planted out in the wider Eden catchment.

If you want advice or a steer in the right direction, do drop in and see us at the tree nursery, we’re always happy to share our knowledge and experience. You’ll find us onsite running volunteering sessions Tuesday 1pm-4pm and Friday 10am-1pm every week so do drop by and bend our ear!

And for even more expert composting advice, we’re delighted to announce the return of our Compost Making Workshop being held at the tree nursery on Saturday 3rd May. Come along and find out about different kinds of composting, learn how to build your own compost bin and get free advice from Garden Organic’s Master Composters.

More information about the nursery, its location, volunteer session times and the ‘Access to Eden’ project which funds its work.

PS: Do come along and see us at Seedy Saturday this weekend, Eden Rivers Trust will be manning a very seedy stand! Tea tasting and bird cake making mischief will be underway…
