Water Works event: hedge laying and maintenance

Date: Thurs 09 Feb | 10 am - 2 pm | Gamblesby

The traditional art of hedge laying is a great way to extend the life of our hedges so that they keep on intercepting, slowing, and storing water for years to come.

Pete Leeson and Steven Hebblethwaite from the Woodland Trust will be your guides, demonstrating how to transform a tall, leggy hedgerow into a healthy dense hedge, perfect for stock protection, wildlife and natural flood management.

As well as getting the chance to try hedge laying, you’ll also learn techniques for maintaining your hedges to extend their lifespan.

Suitable for: farmers and landowners in the Eden catchment who would like to learn the traditional craft of hedge laying or get in some practice.
Experience: no experience needed.
Wear/bring: If you have any of your own equipment please let us know when you book and bring it along: leather gloves, safety glasses, billhook, and bow saw.  Steel toe cap boots or wellies are strongly recommended.
