Do you live within walking distance of Engine Lonning in Carlisle? Why not drop in and ‘go wild’ in your local woodland!
Come along and discover something new about this wild space on your doorstep.
Drop in between 10 am and 3 pm and take part in the FREE short, ‘taster’ activities on offer to celebrate the nature and heritage of this popular site.
Activities include:
Guided walks about the history and importance of Engine Lonning during its industrial hey-day in the company of Carlisle Waverley Viaduct Trust,
Wild games and arty fun for families with Stomping Ground (young-at-heart also included!)
Take a Wild Walk with The Hiking Household – experts in helping all families (especially ones that are not ‘outdoorsy’!) get outside more – no matter the age, or number of children!
A BASH the Balsam workout – get pulling and help us rid the Lonning of this non-native, invasive species (it’s easy and fun to do, we’ll show you how)
Wild ‘n Wonderful Woods – take a stroll with us through the woods and discover more about the trees, plants and wildlife that live here.
Take part in a mini ‘bio-blitz’ with Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre and Carlisle Natural History Society.
On the day, you’ll also get the chance to share what Engine Lonning means to you and your thoughts and ideas about how this green space could be improved to make it a better place for people and nature.
To help you make the most of your visit:
Everybody is welcome, however under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Wear/bring wellies/sturdy shoes and old clothing you can ‘explore’ the woods in!
There will be an accessible portaloo available on site – so you can make a day of it!
Getting here:
