River Versus Railway Consultation Event

Monday 24th February: 1pm – 7pm: Petteril Bank Community Hall, Carlisle

Eden Rivers Trust, in partnership with Cumberland Council and Network Rail, is inviting regular users of the River Petteril Valley below Petteril Bank to attend a drop in consultation event being held at Petteril Bank Community Hall on Monday 24th February.

Sections of public footpaths and railway embankment – running through the river valley greenspace south of Petteril Bank Road/St Ninian’s Road – are in need of repair and protection from further encroachment by the river Petteril. Regular users of the site can drop in to the event to find out more about the results of a study commissioned to identify options for repairing and protecting the site and helping the valley function better as a natural floodplain.

Lev Dahl, River Restoration Manager at Eden Rivers Trust said:

“Listening to people with local knowledge – people who regularly use and enjoy the Petteril valley – will be a major part of helping us to achieve the best outcomes for everyone. This is an opportunity not only to protect the site, but to enhance it. The Petteril valley is an important wild space on the edge of the city, for people who use and enjoy the space and the wildlife that calls it home.”

The drop in event runs from 1pm to 7pm at the Petteril Bank Community Hall with illustrated talks scheduled for 1.30pm and 6pm. There will also be an opportunity to join a river walk from the Community Hall at 3pm to discuss the issues and the opportunities on a walk around the site.

Representatives from Eden Rivers Trust, Cumberland Council’s Green Spaces Team and authors of the study commissioned to identify solutions to the issues will be at the event to answer your questions and to hear your feedback.
