The curtain closes (for now) on our ‘Only ever flush the 3Ps’ school workshop. Over the winter months we have been visiting schools to raise awareness of pollution in our rivers (and the impact of that on river wildlife and humans) and encourage children to become river champions for the Eden!
The children were introduced to the amazing creatures that live in Eden’s rivers and how changes to river habitats impact on their health. The feedback was positive…a big thumbs up for our workshop sessions from the 161 young people we worked with across the Eden river catchment.
The children also carried out a shake bottle experiment to learn what we can safely flush (PEE, POO, PAPER) and what will be harmful to our sewage systems. We finished the day off with an inspiring assembly performance to the rest of the school, with children dressing in costumes and acting out a fun and interactive story to pass on the message that the 3Ps are the ONLY things that can ever go down our toilets!
We had some wonderful feedback from the young people and we’re delighted that they got so much out of the workshops and the performances, we certainly did!
A massive Thank You to all the schools for having us and to all the children for their enthusiasm and passion to protect their local river! And thanks to the funder, Westmorland and Furness Council who made this inspiring project possible. Delivered by the Lake District National Park Authority in partnership with Eden Rivers Trust.
