Bash, thrash and mash an invasive plant from the Himalayas that’s taking over the site. An instantly rewarding and very important activity that will help protect Engine Lonning’s wildlife. Let’s get together and get rid of this invasive, non-native plant from our riverbanks and footpaths!

All are welcome, no experience necessary and no equipment needed. Join us for an hour or all of the sessions! For a rewarding, fun and invigorating way to spend your day! And by pulling out invasive, non-native Himalayan balsam, you’ll be helping to protect our rivers and native wild plants. It’s easy, fun and a good workout! 

All ages – under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Where to meet: Engine Lonning lies to the west of Carlisle city centre, next to the River Eden, just downstream from where the River Caldew flows into it.

Please note, there isn’t any parking at, or near the woodland site. Please walk or use public transport to get here. Find us in the clearing at the end of the lane accessed from main entrance.

What to Wear: old clothes – long-sleeve tops, trousers, waterproofs and gardening or work gloves (we can lend you some!) Covering arms and legs is important as you might be pulling out Himalayan balsam in nettles and thistles! Wear wellies or sturdy shoes/boots.

What to Bring: drinks, hats, sunscreen and waterproofs (just in case) and lunch if you plan to stay all day.
