A Bumper Crop of Volunteers Lend a Hand

A freezing wind did little to put off our volunteers at the Eden Community Tree Nursery in Penrith this week. The nursery, our community of amazing volunteers and our trees are all thriving. What better antidote to a stubborn winter and a January that has outstayed its welcome!

As well as more regular volunteers we welcomed staff from ‘Highlights Rural Touring Scheme‘ who have really embraced the work of the nursery both in growing our trees for the future and providing a welcoming space in the heart of Penrith for like minded friends. You’ll find more information about ‘Highlights’ at the link. When they’re not helping us at the nursery, they’re busy delivering an amazing programme of live arts and events across the region, well worth a look!

Volunteering With ERT

Come along and help grow our Eden community tree nursery!

Volunteering at our community tree nursery is suitable for everyone – you don’t need to have any previous experience. There are always plenty of jobs available at all levels – from absolute beginners upwards, and help is always on hand to support you.

There are always a variety of tasks at the tree nursery and at this time of year, it’s all about getting seeds prepped and bedded in safely to start their long journey into the world of giants. It might be a bit messy sometimes but it’s also very satisfying to set out the trays and pots for their winter slumber. There will however always be other jobs to do alongside this so don’t be put off if you think that isn’t the job for you.

Tree Nursery volunteer work parties are held every week:

Tuesday afternoons, 1 pm – 4 pm

Friday mornings, 10 am – 1 pm

Sessions are usually on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings. Please note: all times may be subject to change at very short notice – please make sure you check that a session is running before you come out.
