Why are we going into battle against this pretty flower?
Himalayan balsam is an invasive, non-native plant that is spreading like wildfire in the UK! It’s helped on its way by unsuspecting animals or people as seeds and plant fragments are carried on feet, fur and clothes.
It travels along rivers, railways and roads, out-competes native plants and adds to riverbank erosion as it leaves bare soil when it dies back in winter.
You can get involved! (balsam bashing is very therapeutic)
Come along and find out what all the fuss is about, pick up tips for effective balsam bashing and help us clear a MASSIVE patch of this alien invader at Cummersdale Holmes!
