Walk Information

This 40 minute walk is ideal for a lunchbreak. A quick jaunt around Penrith’s outskirts for a refresher to clear your mind and have a reset.

Tarmac pavement, bordering busy roads with heavy goods traffic at points along this route.

Accessibility

The route follows roadside pavements. You will need to cross roads at points and be aware that heavy goods traffic is prevalent throughout the Gillwilly Business Park sections.

Please be aware of livestock whilst walking in the countryside, most cows and sheep on public right of ways are safe but stay alert to the potential risk to you and your walking party, especially with cows and calves (see the link for more info. to stay safe). Keep your dog on a lead around all livestock, even if your dog is especially well-behaved, the poor sheep don’t know this! Especially in lambing time, try to leave the field as calm as you found it. Directions

Starting on Gilwilly Road, turn left at roundabout onto Newton Road and onto Norfolk Road B5288.

Follow Norfolk Road and bear left upon reaching sharp bend. Cross the road to join opposite pavement where safe to do so.

Follow road and bear round to the right over railway bridge. Keep to pavement on right hand side.

Turn right at roundabout onto Cromwell Road, following footpath to second mini roundabout.

Turn right at roundabout onto A592 heading towards Penrith station and Castle.

Follow the path round to the right, passing Kendal Castle on your left and Penrith Station on your right.

Follow A592 until you reach large roundabout. Take first exit onto Haweswater Road.

Follow the footpath leading into Hasweswater Road.

The path will lead into Penrith Business Park.

Follow this footpath through the business park until you reach a roundabout. Turn right.

Continue a short distance to the next mini roundabout and cross, taking the first exit to re-join Cowper Road and your starting point.
