Go Wild Beat No7 Millhouse
Brown Trout, occasional Salmon
The River Caldew flows from the fells around Caldbeck and the northern flanks of the Skiddaw Massif, (John Peel country), continuing north to Carlisle where it joins the Eden.
The bouldery substrate of this section of the Caldew creates dazzling riffles punctuated by deep silty pools. Wading can be hazardous among the slippery boulders. This beat was recently coppiced to enhance the river habitat quality and improve the fishery.
Go Wild is our innovative roving voucher angling scheme. We have 28 challenging fishing beats spread throughout Cumbria’s beautiful Eden valley. The beats are all on private land, accessible only via the Go Wild scheme and are all real hidden gems.
Go Wild has been designed to provide a sustainable income for farmers and landowners, focusing particularly on stretches of river where habitat improvement work has been carried out.
